PURPOSE:

This is a low-cost basketball camp that is offered to all students entering grades 5-9.  It is an opportunity to improve the basketball skills that are often neglected during the summer months.

 WHAT MAKES OUR CAMP DIFFERENT:

The key element to the C-Hawk Basketball Camp is that all instruction and encouragement is Christ-centered.  Campers will be reminded that all of their gifts and abilities come from God, and it is up to each one of them to use them to the best of their ability.  Each session will begin with devotion, and prayers will be led by the camp personnel.

 PROGRAM:

All campers will be taught the fundamentals of basketball: dribbling, shooting, passing, etc.  They will also be given quality instruction on offensive and defensive strategies from the coaching staff.  All attendees will gain basketball, teamwork, and life skills that will prove to be valuable well beyond their week on campus.

 COST:

Ryan Smith Signs With Tulane University PDF Print E-mail

Ryan Smith signs his letter of intent to play for Tulane University

Parents and Friends of CLHS,

I am pleased to announce that Ryan Smith has verbally committed
to Tulane University.

Ryan is proof that hard work pays off!

Ryan is proof that a player does not have to play at a big time
HS program in order to get recruited.

Ryan is proof that recruits can say "no" to those HS coaches who
tried to recruit him away, and he still earned a scholarship.

Ryan is proof that a high school coach and travel ball coach can
work together for the best of the athlete.

We've had many athletes from CLHS go on to play college athletics.
Ryan is the first C-Hawk to sign with a D-1 school for basketball.
Not only that, but Ryan is the only senior basketball player in our
area encompassing 20+ high schools to sign with a D-1 school.

I'd like to thank Ryan's teammates and coaches through the years! They pushed him, challenged
him, and
encouraged him to be a great player.  Sure it helps to be 6'11" and 238 pounds,
but thestudent and coach
relationships built over 4 years were an integral part of getting
to this day.

For every Ryan Smith, there's a Robert Riesenberg, Phillip Harrison, Noah Schriefer, Matt Correia, Joseph Shiery,
Ben Schober, Weston Dyrssen, Luke Rosenbaum feeding the post in practice and games; making the
"Big Country" play big!

Welcome to Cal Lutheran Athletics, the home of the C-Hawks.

California Lutheran High School has had a long and storied tradition in athletics over the course of our thirty-five year history.  As a coach and as the athletic director at CLHS I’ve seen some great individual and team successes on our playing fields.  I’ve been blessed to witness and to be a part of numerous league and state championships.  At CLHS, we as Christians know that these blessings begin with and revolve around our loving and merciful God.

Winning championships are great, but the aspect of our athletics program that I am most proud of is the Christian character displayed by our coaches and student athletes on the playing field.  We honor Him with our time and talents, by our words and through our actions, understanding that all we have is solely a result of His grace.

Although we all fall short of leading the perfect life of our Savior, Jesus, C-Hawk coaches, teachers, and students strive to reflect Christian virtues demonstrated by Jesus in His ministry.  By exhibiting compassion, forgiveness, honesty, and love for others during practice and competition, we pray that our students are being molded to be the Christian leaders of tomorrow.

It is not easy to be a student athlete.  The rigors of the classroom coupled with the trials and tribulations experienced on the playing fields can at times be overwhelming.  It is the responsibility of our C-Hawk coaches to help guide and direct our student athletes through these tough times.  The comforting guidance and motivation our coaches and students have is found on the wall of our gym, “Whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.” (1st Cor. 10:31).

We want all students and parents to have an enjoyable experience as part of our athletic program.  In order for this to be rewarding, keep in mind our motivation in life – to glorify GodShould Christian athletes and coaches want to do their best and strive to win?  Absolutely!  God expects no less than our very best efforts to use the gifts He has given to us.   God expects excellence!  Excel through the One who was perfect, Jesus!  Serve God with your gifts and He will bless those efforts!

It is my prayer that God would continue to bless the C-Hawk athletic program with quality coaches, hard-working athletes, supportive fans and plenty more banners to adorn our walls.

To Him Be the Glory,

Dave Peter
Cal Lutheran Athletic Director
