The Barn Owl and CLHS
Though rarely seen. There are many barn owls in the
area around CLHS. Rabbits and ground squirrels on our campus are ideal prey
for this predator.

Barn owls catch 2-3 mice per day. More if they are feeding rheir young. For this reason farmers often provide nesting sites for the owls in their barns. (Click photo for source)

Interesting Facts
The Barn Owl has a body length of 14 - 20
inches, a 3 1/2 foot wingspan, and weighs 8 - 21 ounces. Barn owl measurements
vary greatly throughout the world. They mainly eat small mammals, but they
will hunt birds, fish, reptiles, and insects.
