campus, often flying down into one of our many trees, such as the Japanese
Pine.

Natural Range
The Mockingbird is found throughout most of the
continental United States. They are anywhere from southern Oregon to northern
Utah to Newfoundland to southern Mexico.
Interesting Facts
Mockingbirds were given their name because
of the way they mimic other birds and mechanical noises. In fact, their Latin
scientific name Mimus Polyglotttos means many-toungued mimic. Mockingbirds
are most heard on moon-lit spring nights. Mockingbirds are very territorial.
They will attack anything that enters into their territoy or anything they
feel is a threat to them. They even mistakenly attack their own reflections
at
times.
