This aloe plant is found in our cactus garden. It bloomed in late April last year. It has an orange flower that grows out of the top of the aloe. It has green leaves, which look like like a cacti. The gel is a clear, thin, jelly-like substance. (CLHS Photo)

Natural Range
The plant is native to Native Africa, but is found all over the world now.From its name you might think this flower is only found in California, but it is actually found in most of the lower 48 states, Hawaii and into Canada and Mexico.

Interesting Facts
Aloes have been a source for healing since the Old Testamnet Times, as well asbody lotions and oils. It is used for sunburn treatments and found in gels, and lip glosses. The aloe vera can be used as a house plant or as a just for decoration. It also lives in warm, and dry climates.sun-loving, drought tolerant plant is the state flower of California. April 6 is Poppy Day in California. Poppies bloom primarily in the late spring and early summer, but will bloom in late summer and fall if there is sufficient moisture.

The Aloe and CLHS
The aloe plant shown above was brought in by somebody and was planted in our cactus garden last April. It is a plant that is grown by people and a plant that is just gronw in the wild by itself. The plant decorates the garden and adds to its beauty. California Poppy is both a wild and cultivated plant. It has been found on our campus intentionally and by chance. It's beautiful flowers are a certain sign that Spring is here.
